Following recognising the need for original and attractive phonics material, Tric a Chlic was created in 2012 for Welsh-medium schools that deliver their education in the classroom through the medium of Welsh. Evidence proves that presenting synthetic phonics in a fun and attractive way to a child alongside hearing and seeing books and stories works. Following the success of the original programme, we developed a version of the programme for children and schools who have already learned synthetic phonics through the medium of English. This is still a Welsh phonics scheme but it builds on the skills learned previously.
